Governors, officials offer their condolences in Fort Hood shooting deaths

HUNTINGTON -- Governors and state officials have offered their condolences in the shooting deaths at Fort Hood, Texas.

President Obama ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset Tuesday, Nov. 10. Governors in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky reiterated the lowering of flags in their respective states.

Here are statements related to the shooting incident:

WEST VIRGINIA NATIONAL GUARD STATEMENT: "Members of the West Virginia National Guard family offer our sincere condolences to those affected by the tragic shooting yesterday at Fort Hood, Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends of those killed and injured and the entire Fort Hood military community."

WEST VIRGINIA GOV. JOE MANCHIN: "Gayle and I were heartbroken to learn of this senseless tragedy and our hearts go out to the entire Fort Hood community. Every day, our men and women in uniform give tirelessly and make such tremendous sacrifices to protect this country and the freedoms we all enjoy. On behalf of all West Virginians, our thoughts and prayers go out to victims' families and loved ones as they go through this difficult time," said the governor.

OHIO GOV. TED STRICKLAND: "Ohio grieves for the victims of the tragedy at Fort Hood. The prayers of our people seek comfort for the families of those who were lost, recovery for those who were injured, and solace for all whose lives were affected by this senseless violence."

KENTUCKY GOV. STEVE BESHEAR: "Yesterday's occurrence at Fort Hood was an unprecedented and unspeakable tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims and all others who were affected by this inexpressible attack."
