HUNTINGTON -- Many people went out to the Ritter Park Rose Garden for free rose clippings on Monday morning.
The Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District offered the free clippings along with instructions on how to grow roses.
Experts advised that rose garden beds should be prepared in advance in a well-drained area, away from trees, and with early morning sun. They should be planted about a foot deep in a mixture of compost, soil, sand and rooting hormone.
Area residents went home with buckets of pink and white rose clippings for their own gardens on Monday.
Members of the Huntington Rose Society assisted and answered questions from the public at the event.
